ID checks
A photo ID and a selfie, checked by Stripe. Five dollars once, and we only keep the result.
What it is
You take a photo of a government ID and a selfie. Stripe compares them and tells us whether it matched. That's the whole check.
What it costs
Five dollars, once. That covers what Stripe charges to run it. You don't pay again, and there's no subscription attached to it.
What we keep
The result. Not your ID, not the selfie, not your document number. Those go to Stripe and stay there. We store whether you passed and when.
What other people see
A verified badge on your profile. That's it. Nobody sees your ID, your date of birth, or anything off the document.
Why hosts ask for it
Because they're deciding whether to hand a stranger a key to the house they sleep in. A verified badge doesn't tell them everything, but it rules out the most common kind of fake profile. It works the other way too, and you can check whether a host is verified before you go see a room.
